There has been some confusion regarding the rules on using the apron on roval circuits such as Daytona Road and Charlotte Roval.
The rules regarding this are laid out in the FIRST Sporting Code.
Drivers can only use the racing surface for qualifying and racing. The
apron is not defined as racing surface, example Daytona Road Course. Cars
may not use the apron to gain an advantage in qualifying or racing. Any
advantage will be determined by iRacing.com.
So you can drive on the apron, but not in a way that gives you an advantage. So you can go onto it to avoid a wreck, or if you mess up and careen onto it, or your car is damaged, etc. But you can’t just drive on it because it’s faster than using the banking.
